Tradesman inserting kneepad into work pants on a jobsite

Pick the Right Kneepads

Pick the Right Kneepads

Your knees take a beating on the job site. Whether you're laying tile, running wire, or finishing floors, the right kneepads can be the difference between a productive day and a painful one. Blaklader's lineup covers the full range — from lightweight everyday pads to heavy-duty protection for the roughest conditions — but picking the right pair comes down to knowing how you work.

Here are the key factors to consider:

How long you'll be on your knees. For long days on hard surfaces, you want more cushioning and support, not just basic protection.

The surface you're working on. Uneven or sharp surfaces demand a tougher, reinforced pad. Flat, clean surfaces are more forgiving.

How much you're moving around. If you're constantly shifting and crawling, a slimmer, flexible pad will feel less restrictive. If you're stationary for long stretches, prioritize cushion.

Your body weight. Heavier workers compress padding faster, so thicker, denser pads tend to provide more consistent protection over a full shift.

The conditions you're working in. If you're outdoors in winter or on cold concrete, thicker pads do double duty — the extra material provides meaningful insulation between your knee and the surface beneath it.

All Blaklader kneepads are designed to slot into pants with a kneepad pocket.

HERE'S THE LINEUP:

Best for: Occasional kneeling, flat surfaces, maximum mobility
Foam Kneepads
The lightest and most flexible option in the lineup. Polyethylene foam molds to the shape of your knee and works great on flat, even surfaces. Best if you're kneeling occasionally rather than all day and want maximum mobility when you are.
Best for: General trades work, rough or debris-covered surfaces, moderate to heavy use
Reinforced Kneepads
A hard exterior shell protects against sharp objects and rough surfaces, while the soft interior keeps your knee comfortable and correctly positioned. Compatible with any Blåkläder pants featuring a kneepad pocket, as well as the Kneepad Sleeves.
Best for: Long hours on your knees, uneven surfaces, maximum coverage
Wide Reinforced Kneepads
Everything the Reinforced Kneepad offers, built wider for better stability and coverage. A great fit for larger-framed workers or anyone spending serious time on uneven surfaces.
Best for: Floor installers, tile setters, long-duration kneeling, hard flat surfaces
Gel Kneepads
The premium pick, built specifically with flooring and tile trades in mind. A 25mm synthetic rubber gel construction absorbs and redistributes pressure better than foam or EVA — and holds its shape even after hours of compression. If your job has you on your knees most of the day, this is the one.
